Jen Smith

People ask how is it that I came into interior design, the truth is that I wasn’t a little girl dreaming of being a designer, I was a little girl climbing (and falling out of) trees and picking wild blackberries in the woods with my Mom. During my childhood summers, I worked at my little town’s local movie theatre and when the movies were all mid-show, I would read through a library of gifted books on Art Deco theatres including the one where I could be found slinging candy and ‘corn.  That’s how I found myself interested in design – a bunch of coffee table books that smelled like freshly popped popcorn.

My experience in the Los Angeles design scene is due largely to my role as the senior designer at Kelly Architects for 10+ years. I was hired on a whim (a story for another time) to create an interior design program for their architect-filled office – because I was the sole designer, I was able to create a design aesthetic that was uniquely my own. Fast-forward 10 years’ time and my portfolio, the support of my clients, and the general reception to my designs created an opportunity for me to start my own studio. So here I am.

I am efficient with all aspects of interior design –from concepts to construction drawings, from specs to sourcing, and from purchasing to installation.  I’ve been known to dabble in logos and branding but I prefer to offer insight and direction and then recommend a great graphic designer I know.

You may know me because of the Public School restaurants or because I am the fool crying at the 80’s hair band concert.
